What you get
No theory homework
Every chord in the Chords In-Key tab already fits your key and mode, so anything you click there works together.
Ideas when you're stuck
Named progressions by genre and suggestions for the next chord give you options to try instead of a blank page.
Chords that groove
Choose a voicing and one of 26 rhythm patterns, from pads and strums to arpeggios and genre grooves.
Who it's for
Songwriters
Gives a lyric or a melody idea a set of chords in your key, with suggestions for where the progression can go next.
Beginners and music students
Roman numerals and in-key chord palettes show how a progression is built, and the same progression re-spells into any key.
Lo-fi, R&B and jazz producers
7th and 9th chords, spread and drop-2 voicings and genre progressions give beats richer harmony than plain triads.
Music teachers
Moves the same progression across 12 keys and 8 modes, so a class can hear transposition and modal color side by side.
When to use it
- You have lyrics and a mood but no chords yet
- You're stuck after the first two chords
- You want to hear your progression in Dorian, Mixolydian or another mode
- You need a progression that sounds like a genre, such as lo-fi or jazz
- You're learning what ii–V–I sounds like and want to hear it in every key
- You want a chord bed to write a melody over
What you can make with it
A chorus progression
For a chorus, add vi–IV–I–V from Progressions and give it a pattern from the Strums & Comping group in Rhythm.
Lo-fi sevenths
Set Genre to Lo-fi, choose a spread voicing, then add the ii7–V7–Imaj7 turnaround from Progressions for a soft, jazzy bed.
A borrowed chord for color
Open AI Suggestions and try a chord from Minor in Major, such as the minor iv, to darken a chorus in a major key.
Jazz approach chords
Use the Leading to next list for approach chords, such as the dominant seventh, a backdoor dominant or a tritone substitute, that lead back to your tonic.
A progression you already know
Type a progression such as Am F C G into Search and press Enter to add all four chords, then swap any of them from the palette.
A 12-bar blues
Add the 12-bar blues from Progressions, then write a melody over the changes on a Synth One track.
Modal color
Keep the key and switch Mode to Dorian or Phrygian, and the palette offers that mode's chords for a different mood.
Roman numeral lessons
Turn on Roman so chords show as numerals, then have students build the same progression in two different keys to compare.
From chords to a sung song
Write a melody over the progression on a Synth One track, save the clip with Export as MIDI File and give it to MIDI to Song Generator with your lyrics. MIDI to Song Generator uses tokens.
Chord One is Soundverse's chord progression generator: a chord tool inside AI Studio that builds progressions in any key and mode, shaped by genre, and plays them on your timeline. It's for songwriters, producers and beginners who want chords that fit together without working out the theory by hand. You get chords in key from triads to 11ths, 27 named progressions, suggestions for what comes next, four voicings, 26 rhythm patterns, and output to its own pad or to Synth One or Bass One.

Where the AI comes in

AI Suggestions
Three lists for your key, mode and genre: Often used, Leading to next, and Minor in Major.
Agent One
Agent One doesn't write into Chord One. Ask it for chords and it writes them as notes on a Synth One track.

Good to know
Rules, not ears
Suggestions follow music theory for your key, mode and genre; Chord One doesn't hear your melody or detect chords from audio.
No MIDI keyboard input
Add chords by clicking or searching; Chord One doesn't read a MIDI controller.
Agent One writes to Synth One
Agent One's chord parts go onto Synth One tracks as notes, not into Chord One.
Routing in exports
Chords sent to a Synth One or Bass One track export with that sound; other routes export with Chord One's built-in pad.
Frequently asked questions
Is Chord One a free chord progression generator?
Yes. Chord One is free on every Soundverse plan, including Free, and using it costs no tokens. It runs inside AI Studio, where the Free plan gives you 3 projects with up to 3 tracks each and MP3 export. Chord One takes one track, plus one more if you send its chords to a new Synth One or Bass One track. Creator raises the limits to 8 projects and 8 tracks and adds WAV and stems.
How good are Chord One's progressions?
Chord One builds every chord from the key and mode you choose, so its progressions stay in key, and its 27 named progressions are standard patterns such as I–V–vi–IV, ii–V–I and the 12-bar blues. It doesn't judge whether a progression suits your melody, so let your ear decide. For a fuller sound than the built-in pad, send the chords to a Synth One track in Soundverse AI Studio.
Can I use songs I write with Chord One commercially?
It depends on your Soundverse plan. On the Free plan, what you make with Chord One is for personal use. Paid plans include a commercial license; the Pricing page lists what each plan covers. You need the rights to anything you upload or record into the project around your chords, such as samples or vocals.
What can't Chord One do?
Chord One doesn't listen to a recording to work out its chords, and its suggestions follow music-theory rules rather than your melody. It has no MIDI keyboard input, and Agent One doesn't write into Chord One: when Agent One writes chords, it puts them as notes on a Synth One track. Chord One runs only inside Soundverse AI Studio.
What is Chord One?
Chord One is Soundverse's chord tool: an instrument in AI Studio that suggests and plays chords for a key, mode and genre. You click chords or whole progressions to add them to its track, one bar per chord, choose a voicing and a rhythm pattern, and hear them on its built-in pad or route them to a Synth One or Bass One track.
How does Chord One generate chord progressions?
Chord One uses music theory. In Soundverse AI Studio, set the key, mode and genre, then click Starter for a genre progression, pick one of 27 named progressions, or build your own from the chords in key. The AI Suggestions tab applies music-theory rules to list chords often used in your key, chords that lead to the next one, and chords borrowed from the parallel minor.
Which keys, modes and genres does Chord One support?
Chord One works in all 12 keys and 8 modes: Major, Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian and Harmonic Minor. Its Genre setting covers Pop, Lo-fi, R&B / Soul, Jazz, EDM / House, Cinematic and Rock, and the Progressions tab adds Blues. Turn on Roman in Soundverse AI Studio to see each chord as a numeral, such as ii, V or vi, instead of its name.
Can I search for a chord or type a progression?
Yes. Open the Search tab in Chord One and type a chord such as Am or C#7, a description such as a minor, a quality such as maj7, or a whole progression such as C Am F G. Press Enter to add the top chord, or the whole progression, to the end of your progression in Soundverse AI Studio, or click any result to add it.
Can I turn my chords into a full song?
Yes. Write a melody over your Chord One progression on a Synth One track in Soundverse AI Studio, save that clip with Export as MIDI File, then open MIDI to Song Generator and add lyrics. MIDI to Song Generator turns 5 to 60 seconds of MIDI melody into a sung song and uses tokens per run; Chord One itself is free.
