What you get

Pick the decade, then fine-tune

ERA sets the range and tone from the '30s to the '00s, and six knobs set the crackle, scratches, warp, wear, rumble and hum.

Artifacts that spin

Scratches repeat once per turn and the warp follows the RPM you pick, like a record on a platter.

Free on every track

It runs in your browser in AI Studio, uses no tokens on any plan and saves with your project.

Who it's for

Lo-fi hip-hop producers

Adds dust, scratches, warp and wear to beats and study mixes, voiced by decade.

Boom bap and sample-based producers

Makes a clean loop or sample sound like it came off a record before you chop or loop it.

Content creators and video editors

Gives intros, flashbacks and retro scenes the sound of an old record.

Songwriters chasing a vintage sound

Ages keys, guitars or a vocal with a tone tied to an era from the '30s to the '00s.

When to use it

  • A beat sounds too clean for the lo-fi or boom bap feel you want
  • A section should sound like an old recording, such as an intro or a flashback
  • A sample needs to sit with older, dustier material
  • You want the sound of a specific decade, not just generic noise
  • You want record texture on one part while the rest of the mix stays clean

What you can make with it

An early-recording intro

Set ERA to '30 for a narrow, dark range and add a little SCRATCH so the intro sounds like an early record.

A lo-fi study beat

Pick '70 or '80, keep DUST low, add a touch of WARP, and set MECH to -60 dB if the rumble clutters the low end.

Old keys, crisp drums

Put Vinyl One on the keys track only, so the chords sound aged while the drums stay crisp.

A slow or fast warp

Raise WARP at 33⅓ RPM for a slow wobble, or at 78 for a faster one.

Mono crackle

Set STEREO to Mono so the crackle and noise sit in the center, like an old mono pressing.

Grit without crackle

Turn on LO-FI for reduced bandwidth and bit depth, with DUST and SCRATCH down and MECH and ELEC at -60 dB, for grit without record noise.

Dusty drums from a chain

On an audio drum track, pick Lo-fi Dust or Boom Bap Crunch from ✦ Effect chain preset to get Vinyl One with matching drum processing.

A record dubbed to tape

Add Cassette One after Vinyl One for a loop that sounds like a record copied to cassette.

Vinyl One is a vinyl effect in Soundverse AI Studio that makes any track sound like it's playing from a record, with crackle, scratches, warp, wear and turntable noise. An ERA switch from the '30s to the '00s narrows or opens the frequency range and sets the tone, and RPM sets how fast the warp and the scratches come around. It's built for lo-fi, hip-hop and retro producers, and it's free on every plan, with no tokens used.

What you can do

Era and character

Set the age and the playback of the virtual record.

  • ERA

'30, '50, '60, '70, '80 or '00. Older eras narrow the frequency range, darken the tone and add more rumble.

  • RPM

33⅓, 45 or 78. Sets how fast the record turns, which changes the warp rate and how often scratches repeat, not your track's speed.

  • LO-FI and LO-FI AMT

Adds a lo-fi stage that narrows the bandwidth, lowers the bit depth and saturates. LO-FI AMT sets how hard it hits.

  • STEREO

Decorrelated gives each side its own crackle and noise; Mono puts the same noise in both.

Artifacts

Each knob adds one kind of age.

  • DUST and SCRATCH

DUST sets the fine crackle; SCRATCH adds louder pops that repeat with each turn of the record.

  • WARP and WEAR

WARP wobbles the pitch like a warped disc; WEAR rolls off the high end like a worn groove.

  • MECH and ELEC

MECH sets turntable rumble and motor noise, and ELEC sets mains hum and hiss, each from -60 dB, which is off, up to 0 dB.

Where the AI comes in

Vinyl One is signal processing. Agent One can put it on a track for you in AI Studio.

  • Ask Agent One

Open Agent One from the AI Studio top bar with its Studio switch on, and ask it to age a track with Vinyl One. Agent One requests use tokens; the Free plan includes three Agent One generations, the second and third unlocked by sharing Soundverse.

    • Add Vinyl One to the drums with a '70s era
    • Make the keys track sound like an old record

How it works

  1. Choose a track to age

Open AI Studio and pick the track: a drum loop, keys, a sample or a whole song you've uploaded, recorded or generated.

  2. Add Vinyl One

Click the track header, click ADD EFFECT and pick Vinyl One under the Character chip. The Boom Bap Crunch and Lo-fi Dust drum chain presets include it too.

  3. Pick an era and a speed

Open its window and press Play. Choose ERA from '30 to '00 and RPM 33⅓, 45 or 78, and turn on LO-FI for extra grit.

  4. Set the noise, then export

Set DUST, SCRATCH, WARP and WEAR, and turn MECH or ELEC down to -60 dB to remove the rumble or hum. Then export from AI Studio.

Why use Vinyl One

A decade in one switch

ERA sets the frequency range and tone, from a narrow, dark '30s sound to a full-range '00s one, before you touch a knob.

Noise that spins with the record

Scratch pops repeat once per turn of the platter and the warp wobbles at the RPM you pick, so the artifacts move like a record.

One knob per kind of age

DUST, SCRATCH, WARP, WEAR, MECH and ELEC each control one artifact, so you can keep the hum and lose the crackle, or the reverse.

The same crackle every time

The crackle and scratches are seeded, so the same settings always give the same pattern, for you, for collaborators and in the export.

Good to know

No dry/wet knob

Vinyl One processes the whole signal. For subtle age, lower DUST and SCRATCH and set MECH and ELEC to -60 dB.

RPM isn't playback speed

RPM changes how fast the warp and scratches repeat. Your track's tempo and pitch stay the same.

Noise under quiet parts

The crackle and hum bed keeps playing through quiet parts of the track, as a record would.

No automation

Vinyl One's controls can't be automated, so its settings hold for the whole track.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vinyl One a free vinyl effect?

Yes. Vinyl One comes with AI Studio on every Soundverse plan, including Free, and it uses no tokens, since the crackle and wear are made in your browser. What changes with your plan is the studio: Free allows 3 projects of 3 tracks each with MP3 export, and Creator and above allow more tracks and add WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG and stem export.

How realistic does Vinyl One sound?

Vinyl One builds the record sound from its parts: an era-based frequency range and tone, high-frequency wear, a warp that wobbles the pitch at the platter's speed, and a crackle, scratch, rumble and hum bed that loops every four turns of the record. It's made for lo-fi and retro character rather than to copy one turntable, so set each artifact by ear and start low.

Can I release a track with Vinyl One on it?

It depends on your Soundverse plan. On the Free plan, what you make is for personal use. Paid plans include a commercial license; the Pricing page lists what each plan covers. Vinyl One only adds texture, so you still need the rights to the music you put through it, including any sample you age.

What can't Vinyl One do?

Vinyl One adds the sound of a record but can't remove real crackle or hiss from a recording. RPM doesn't change your track's speed or pitch; it sets how fast the warp and scratches repeat. There's no dry/wet knob, so for a subtle result lower DUST and SCRATCH and set MECH and ELEC to -60 dB. Its controls can't be automated.

What is Vinyl One?

Vinyl One is a vinyl and lo-fi character effect in Soundverse AI Studio. It voices a track by era and platter speed, then adds dust, rotation-locked scratches, warp, high-frequency wear, mechanical rumble and electrical hum, with an optional LO-FI stage that reduces bandwidth and bit depth. It runs in your browser on any track.

How do I add vinyl crackle to a song?

Put the song on a track in Soundverse AI Studio, click the track header, click ADD EFFECT and pick Vinyl One under Character. Open its window, press Play, choose an ERA and RPM, then raise DUST for crackle and SCRATCH for pops. Lower MECH and ELEC if you don't want rumble or hum, and export.

What do ERA and RPM change in Vinyl One?

In Vinyl One, ERA sets the sound of the decade: the '30 setting is narrow and dark, about 250 Hz to 3 kHz, and each later era opens up until '00 runs from about 22 Hz to 19 kHz. Older eras also bring more rumble. RPM sets how fast the virtual record turns, which changes the speed of the warp and how often the scratches repeat.

Is Vinyl One AI?

Vinyl One is signal processing rather than a generative model: filters, a modulated delay and a seeded noise bed, made in your browser with no tokens. The AI part of AI Studio is Agent One. With its Studio switch on, ask it to put Vinyl One on a track. Agent One requests use tokens; on the Free plan you get three Agent One generations, and sharing Soundverse unlocks the second and third.

Should I use Vinyl One or Cassette One for lo-fi?

Use Vinyl One for record crackle, pops, warp and turntable hum, and Cassette One for tape: saturation, wow and flutter, hiss, dropouts and a roll-off set by tape type. Both are effects in Soundverse AI Studio, and one track can carry both. The Lo-fi Dust drum chain pairs Vinyl One with the Bitcrush effect, and the Lo-fi Keys chain uses Cassette One.

Ready to give your track some dust?

Open AI Studio, add Vinyl One to a track and pick an era. It's free on every plan.
