What you get

Warmth with wobble

Saturation with a low-end bump, plus slow wow and fast flutter, puts a track on tape.

Choose the tape

Type I, II and IV each set a different brightness, drive and hiss before you touch a knob.

Free, and automatable

It runs in your browser with no tokens on any plan, and MIX, HF LOSS and OUT can change over time.

Who it's for

Lo-fi and bedroom-pop producers

Adds tape wobble, hiss and saturation to keys, guitars and vocals.

Synth and electronic producers

Warms thin, clean synths with tape saturation and a low-end bump.

Hip-hop producers who sample

Makes a loop sound worn and taped before you chop it.

Content creators and video editors

Gives memory scenes, vlogs and intros the sound of a worn cassette.

When to use it

  • A synth or drum machine part sounds too clean and digital
  • You want a track to drift into tape in one section and back out
  • A lo-fi beat needs wobble and hiss but not record crackle
  • You're making a mixtape-style interlude or hook
  • A loop should sound worn before you sample it

What you can make with it

Warm synth pads

Raise SAT on Type I or Type II for warmth and a low-end bump on a thin pad.

Wobbly keys

Add WOW for slow drift and a little FLUTTER to an electric-piano loop.

Taped verse, clean chorus

Automate MIX so the verse sounds taped and the chorus opens up clean.

A muffled intro

Automate HF LOSS so the intro sounds muffled, then open the top end back up when the beat drops.

A worn mixtape interlude

Use Type I with HISS and DROPOUT up for an interlude that sounds like a well-played cassette.

Clean tape warmth

Choose Type IV and switch on noise reduction for tape warmth with little hiss.

Lo-fi keys in one step

On an audio keys track, pick Lo-fi Keys from ✦ Effect chain preset to get Cassette One with matching processing.

A worn sample to chop

Put a loop through Cassette One, export it, and load the file into Sampler One to chop the worn version.

Cassette One is a cassette tape effect in Soundverse AI Studio that makes any track sound recorded to tape and played back on a worn deck. It adds tape saturation with a low-end bump, slow wow and fast flutter, hiss, dropouts and a high-frequency roll-off, voiced by tape type from Type I to Type IV. It's built for lo-fi, bedroom-pop and retro producers, and it's free on every plan, with no tokens used.

What you can do

Tape and tone

Set the tape and how hard it's driven.

  • TAPE

Type I, II or IV. Each sets the high-frequency ceiling, how much the tape saturates and how much hiss it adds.

  • Noise reduction

Halves the hiss and adds a small high-frequency lift, like a deck's noise reduction.

  • SAT and HF LOSS

SAT drives the tape for warmth and raises the low-end bump; HF LOSS rolls off the top end like worn heads.

  • MIX and OUT

MIX blends the tape sound with the dry track, and OUT trims the level. Both, plus HF LOSS, can be automated.

Movement and noise

The wobble, dropouts and noise of a cassette transport.

  • WOW and FLUTTER

WOW adds a slow pitch drift and FLUTTER a fast one, like an uneven tape speed.

  • DROPOUT

Adds slow dips in level, like worn or creased tape.

  • HISS and MECH

HISS sets the tape noise and MECH the mechanism rumble, both seeded so they render the same way each time.

Where the AI comes in

Cassette One is signal processing. Agent One can add and set it for you in AI Studio.

  • Ask Agent One

Open Agent One from the AI Studio top bar with its Studio switch on, and ask it to put a track on tape with Cassette One. Agent One requests use tokens; the Free plan includes three Agent One generations, the second and third unlocked by sharing Soundverse.

    • Add Cassette One to the keys track
    • Make the guitar track sound like an old cassette

How it works

  1. Choose a track

Open AI Studio and pick the track to put on tape: keys, a guitar, drums, a vocal or a whole song you've uploaded, recorded or generated.

  2. Add Cassette One

Click the track header, click ADD EFFECT and pick Cassette One under the Character chip. The Lo-fi Keys chain preset includes it too.

  3. Pick the tape

Open its window and press Play. Choose TAPE Type I, II or IV, and turn on the noise-reduction switch for less hiss and a little more top end.

  4. Set the wear, then export

Set WOW, FLUTTER, SAT, HF LOSS, HISS, DROPOUT and MECH, and blend with MIX. Then export from AI Studio.

Why use Cassette One

Warmth with movement

Tape saturation with a low-end bump adds warmth, while WOW and FLUTTER add the slow and fast pitch wobble of a cassette deck.

Three tapes to start from

Type I is the darkest and hissiest, Type II sits in the middle, and Type IV is the brightest and cleanest, before you touch a knob.

Fade the tape in and out

Right-click MIX, HF LOSS or OUT and choose Add automation, so a section can drift into tape and back.

Hiss you can control

HISS and MECH set the tape noise and the transport rumble separately, and the noise-reduction switch halves the hiss when you want it cleaner.

Good to know

Free-running movement

WOW, FLUTTER and DROPOUT move at their own rates, not in time with the project tempo.

Adds, doesn't remove

Cassette One adds hiss and wobble. It can't clean them out of an old recording.

No preset menu

Start from the default Type I settings, or load the Lo-fi Keys chain preset on an audio track.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cassette One a free cassette tape effect?

Yes. Cassette One is built into AI Studio on every Soundverse plan, Free included, and it uses no tokens because the tape sound is made in your browser. Your plan sets the studio's limits: Free keeps up to 3 projects with 3 tracks each and exports MP3, while Creator and above add more tracks plus WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG and stem export.

Does Cassette One sound like real tape?

Cassette One models the parts of tape you hear most: saturation with a low-end bump, wow and flutter, hiss and transport rumble, dropouts, and a high-frequency roll-off set by the tape type. It's made for that character rather than to copy one specific deck. Start with Type II and moderate WOW and FLUTTER, then push them for a more worn sound.

Can I use music made with Cassette One commercially?

It depends on your Soundverse plan. On the Free plan, what you make is for personal use. Paid plans include a commercial license; the Pricing page lists what each plan covers. Cassette One adds character to audio you bring, so you still need the rights to anything you upload or record.

What can't Cassette One do?

Cassette One adds tape character but can't remove hiss or wobble from an old recording. Its wow, flutter and dropouts move at their own rates, not in time with the project tempo, and the window has no presets. It also doesn't slow the tape to a stop; for a slowing, tape-style pitch effect, try the Tape-Stop mode in Stutter One.

What is Cassette One?

Cassette One is a cassette tape emulation effect in Soundverse AI Studio. It combines tape-type voicing, saturation, a low-end head bump, wow and flutter, dropouts, hiss and mechanism noise, a noise-reduction switch and a dry/wet MIX, with the noise seeded so it renders the same way every time. It runs in your browser on any track.

How do I make audio sound like a cassette tape?

Put the audio on a track in Soundverse AI Studio, click the track header, click ADD EFFECT and pick Cassette One under Character. Open its window, press Play and choose a TAPE type. Raise SAT for warmth, WOW and FLUTTER for wobble and HISS for noise, use HF LOSS to dull the top end, then export.

What's the difference between Type I, Type II and Type IV in Cassette One?

The TAPE switch in Cassette One sets three things at once. Type I is the darkest, with the lowest high-frequency ceiling, the most saturation and the most hiss. Type II sits in the middle. Type IV is the brightest and cleanest, with the least saturation and hiss. HF LOSS, SAT and HISS then adjust from there.

Is Cassette One AI?

Cassette One is signal processing, not a generative model: saturation, filters, a modulated delay and a seeded noise bed, with no tokens. The AI in AI Studio is Agent One, which can add Cassette One to a track and set it when you ask, with its Studio switch on. Agent One requests use tokens, and on the Free plan your first Agent One generation is included, with two more unlocked by sharing Soundverse.

Can I stack Cassette One with Vinyl One?

Yes. Cassette One and Vinyl One are separate effects in Soundverse AI Studio, so one track can carry both. Cassette One brings tape saturation, wobble and hiss, and Vinyl One adds record crackle, scratches and turntable hum. Drag the slots in Track Details to choose which one comes first in the chain.

Ready to put your track on tape?

Open AI Studio, add Cassette One to a track and pick a tape type. It's free on every plan.
