Music Artists and AI - Where Do Today’s Musicians Stand Amidst The Rise of AI Music?

The rise of AI has led to important discussions within both the technology and music space. As a result, artists and musicians have shared their opinions on these advancements. While some artists support the use of AI, others do not fully support AI music. This blog will explore several different artists including Grimes, Timbaland, Paul McCartney and more and their viewpoints on AI music. The blog will also consider recent developments and regulations in AI music and Soundverse’s approach and position within the AI music industry.

Artists Who Support AI Music:

Grimes:

Grimes is an influential artist who supports the use of AI in music. She has openly supported AI's technological developments and advancements within the music industry. According to RouteNote (2023), the AI tool named Elf.Tech by Grimes allows musicians to recreate vocals by using Grimes’ voice known as ‘’GrimesAI-1 Voiceprint’’. This also means that Grimes will receive a half share of the royalties.
This view and approach to music AI highlighted by Grimes is progressive towards embracing AI within the music industry. It is no longer big technology companies who are at the forefront of the rise of AI, but artists themselves who are allowing other creators to make use of AI within music creation. This could propel more artists and creators to use AI in the music-creating process as AI advances within the industry.

Timbaland:

Another musician who has embraced using AI in music is the producer and artist Timbaland. As stated by Blavity (2023), Timbaland has recently used AI to feature the legendary rapper Biggie, who is deceased in a project collaboration in which he showcased the snippet to fans. Timbaland expressed that he has always wanted to work with Biggie, but has never gotten the chance to do so. This is significant and could inspire many other producers in the genre and wider music industry to use AI in their music.

Artists Who Have Not Fully Supported The Rise of AI Despite its Rising Popularity:

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Kate Bush:

Paul McCartney is also another prominent artist who has previously used AI to restore John Lennon’s vocals for a music track titled ‘’Now and Then’’. As explained by AXS TV(2024), AI and stem separation were used to clear up dated vocals which can be displayed in a new way. McCartney expressed that although AI was able to allow this project to happen it can also be an issue for artists and their creativity overtime and ‘wipeout’ rising stars within the music industry if AI remains uncontrolled. This view was also reiterated by his long-time collaborator Ringo Starr, who expressed apprehension to AI in music. Ringo Starr suggested the ability of AI in being able to imitate an artist’s musical style, leading to unofficial music reproduction, can eradicate the style of artists.

As indicated by Yahoo News (2024), several other artists and musicians in the industry have joined the campaign against training AI without the artist being in agreement. Singer Kate Bush has recently joined the campaign against AI.

Moreover, as explained by RouteNote (2025), the UK House of Lords recently voted to protect artists and their music work from being used to train AI. This comes after the government originally had plans to introduce an opt-out system, whereby artists have to mention that they do not allow AI technology companies to use their work to train AI, instead of AI companies requesting authorization from artists.

How Soundverse AI Delivers An Artist-Centric Approach:

Soundverse AI allows creators to make quality music within a wide range of genres and styles easily and without any copyright claims. Soundverse has built an ethical AI model, with transparent data use. Soundverse’s content partner program also provides artists with royalties when their music is used by AI. This means that artists are in control of their musical work and are compensated.

As AI continues to progress within the music industry, many artists are sharing their opinions on AI within music and whilst some artists have been embracing AI and technology, others have not been as receptive. This has also now resulted in official regulations discussed and being set in place in the industry. Soundverse will continue and strive to deliver an artist and user oriented platform for the next generation of music creators.
